คุณกมล โชคไพบูลย์กิจ ประกอบอาชีพซ่อมเครื่องหนัง กระทั่งปี พ.ศ. 2493 มีโอกาสซ่อมลูกฟุตบอลของชาวต่างชาติที่นำเข้ามาเล่นในสมัยนั้น จึงได้นำลูกบอลนั้นพิจารณา และหาวิธีการเย็บลูกฟุตบอลขึ้นมาด้วยตนเอง นับเป็นครั้งแรกที่มีการผลิตลูกฟุตบอลในประเทศไทย คุณกมลเริ่มเย็บลูกฟุตบอลในบ้านของตนเอง เริ่มแรกผลิตได้วันละ 2-3 ลูก โดยหาช่องทางวางจำหน่ายตามห้างขายเครื่องกีฬาที่มีชื่อเสียงในขณะนั้น เช่น ไนติงเกลโอลิมปิก ห้างมาลินี ต่อมาเริ่มผลิตได้มากขึ้น

Footballs produced by FBT was certified by Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). FBT was the first producer in Asia to achieve this standard. FBT footballs were selected to be used in the 8th Asian Games in Bangkok.
